2004 On 21 February the European Green Party is founded in Rome, which becomes the first political party to lead a common European elections campaign. In the June elections the Greens win 34 seats, but fail to win any seats in 10 new member states and renew their Alliance with EFA and take independent MEPs on board. The 42 member strong group remains the fourth largest group in the EU parliament

2007 The Czech Greens are the first Green party in the new member states to enter a coalition government.

The Greens/EFA group is overtaken by the right wing UEN group and becomes fifth largest group in the Parliament.

2009 - ... On 27/28 March, at their Congress in Brussels, the European Green parties launch their second common European election campaign, present the election manifesto «A Green New Deal for Europe» and adopt a resolution «Stop Barroso».

Greens launch an institutional and political fight against the reconduction of José Manuel Barroso as head of the European Commission.
